STAVANGER SUNRISERS ICE HOCKEY
ESTABLISHED 2004
The Stavanger Sunrisers Hockey Team is an independently run recreational ice hockey team based... in Stavanger Norway. We were founded in the winter of 2004 (some of the team now call this the winter of discontent). There were some very informal ice sessions on Tuesdays mornings where around 20 grown men, a good deal of whom had never skated before, started bouncing each other off the boards, hitting each other with sticks and generally making a nuisance out of themselves. Before long someone came up with the bright idea of starting a team hence the Stavanger Sunrisers were formed. If your wondering about the name, well that’s easily explained. You see to get ice time we have to be kitted up and ready to play by 07.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So by the time we get into work we’re ready to rip up trees with our teeth while most people are still nursing their first caffeine intake of the day. The team now consists of over 30 players with an ability level of pretty damn good to pretty damn horrible, but we are first and foremost a team. Those of us who aren’t the nimblest on the ice sure make up for it in the bar.Our home rink is in Siddishallen, on the outskirts of Stavanger. We train twice a week and generally play about 1 or 2 games a month. We also try to visit teams in other countries and attend tournament’s
